The work is AI under constraint: LLM and automation features over internal data, retrieval across sprawling enterprise knowledge, integration with legacy systems that were never built for it, and the governance, security review and data-residency requirements that decide whether a pilot ever reaches production.
The differentiator is shipping AI through enterprise reality, security and procurement, change management with non-technical stakeholders, not greenfield freedom. Engineers who have taken AI into production inside a bank, insurer or telco are scarce. Typical stack: Python, Azure or AWS AI services, and enterprise data platforms.
Where they come from
The pools sit inside the big-four banks, the telcos, the large insurers, the systems integrators (Fujitsu, Datacom) and the consultancies running enterprise AI programs. The useful profile blends applied ML with the patience and stakeholder skill to ship inside a large organisation.
