The Salary Index · 2026/27
Every band we publish, in one place: six disciplines and three levels across seven cities and four currencies. Figures are the 25th to 75th percentile of offers candidates accepted, not what was advertised. Refreshed quarterly.
Each market is drawn on its own axis, in its own currency. We hold no exchange rate anywhere in this site, so nothing here is converted and no comparison is drawn across currencies. That is deliberate: an FX rate baked into a published chart goes stale without anyone noticing.
Methodology
Every band is triangulated from two independent inputs: Re:Sourced accepted-offer data from live and recent searches, and independent public benchmarks. Where the two agree, the band is high confidence. Where they diverge, we anchor to what candidates actually signed for rather than what was advertised.
Bands are base salary only in every market. Australian figures exclude superannuation. US figures exclude equity, which at senior level is usually the larger part of the package. Milan is quoted as RAL, gross annual over 13 or 14 months, because that is the figure an Italian candidate will quote you.
New York and San Francisco carry the same bands because the source guide publishes the US table as an SF and NYC blend and does not split them. They remain separate entries here because their employer on-costs differ, which the cost-to-hire calculator accounts for.
This page is generated from the same file that feeds the salary checker, the pay check, the cost of vacancy calculator and the bands quoted in our emails. A test fails the build if any of them drift apart, so the chart above and the tools can never tell you different things.
Common questions
Because there is no honest way to draw four currencies on one axis. Putting AUD, USD, GBP and EUR on a shared scale requires an exchange rate, and an exchange rate embedded in a published chart goes stale silently. We hold no FX rate anywhere, so every market gets its own axis and every comparison you can draw here is one we can stand behind.
The Re:Sourced Global Tech Engineering Salary Guide 2026/27, which triangulates our own accepted-offer data from live searches against independent public benchmarks. Bands are the 25th to 75th percentile of what candidates actually signed for, not advertised ranges.
Base only, in every market. US total compensation runs far higher because senior US pay is equity-led, and Australian figures exclude superannuation. Mixing base and total comp is the most common way a salary comparison goes wrong, so we keep the index to one measure.
Italian pay is quoted as RAL: gross annual, paid over 13 or 14 months. That is the number an Italian candidate will tell you, so it is the right one to publish, but it is not directly comparable to a twelve-month base elsewhere.
Quarterly, against new accepted offers and the latest public data. The index is generated from the same file that feeds every calculator on this site, so the chart, the tools and the emails we send can never disagree.
